Anyone see this tonight? I thought I'd have a look even though I could never get into The Office. I found it pretty boring and it dragged. Not sure if I'll watch next week.

It was ok as a first episode, I'll probably watch again to see if it comes into its stride. The problem witn Gervais is that he always seems to play a version of himself: unpleasant, arrogant and slightly creepy. All the same he has a knack for getting the most laughs from other peoples' embaressment and discomfort.

Maybe because of The Office he's become overhyped.

I think it is OK, but I find the character of Maggie (I think that is her name) far more interesting. I really, really hated The Office though and think that Gervais is overhyped and not all that he is made out to be.
I also find myself watching more for "which A-lister is in it tonight?" rather than the comedy.
The Catherine Tate Show is much, much more funny and gets me laughing out loud far, far more.

I completely forgot to watch last week. I was too engrossed in the Corrie DVDs. I hear Ross Kemp was good though at sending himself up.
I see Ricky Gervais is co-writing his Simpsons ep. I'm so glad I got fed up with that.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who couldn't get into The Office. It was critically acclaimed here for some reason and they now have an American version which I haven't seen. Off topic, I know, but has anyone seen Jerry Springer - the Opera? It was on last night and was really funny for awhile, then got on my nerves so turned it off. They don't think it will run in the US - too profane - most would be bleeped - may not run again here.

I have Jerry Springer - The Opera on DVD. I love it. The BBC were really brave not giving into those religious fanatics. My dad missed it when it was on TV so I let him watch the DVD first and he loved it too. He's Catholic and wasn't offended in the slightest. The language can get a bit wearing. But personally I think the 2nd act (which is what they all complained about) is the best part of it. That actor playing Jonathon the warm-up man/Satan really upstaged everyone in act 2. David Soul was fantastic. I never rated him before much as an actor (a friend's mother when I was young had his records) but he delivered the comedy lines so well. If it ran in the US they'd probably cut it so much all that would be left would be David Soul's bits! LOL!
Did you have a load of complaints before it was even shown like we did? It was on very late here and 1.8 million watched. I think it got more viewers because of the complaining. LOL! I wasn't interested but refused to be dictated to so decided to have a look and make up my own mind.

I didn't know it was coming on til I saw the Star Tv Listings, so there was nothing said before but they say now it may not run again. After the Montel guy with the diaper was on for awhile I'd had enough. If it comes on again I'll try to catch the rest of it. It was just hilarious hearing all the stuff that gets bleeped from the actual Jerry Springer show (which I haven't watched in years). JS used to have an interesting talk show many years ago until it became a screaming match.

I used to enjoy that when it was popular here. But it did just get ridiculous and over the top. So you missed Jerry being shot and asking why he should be shot? The heaven/hell stuff after he's shot seems to be some sort of dream sequences from as far as I can make out. I could be wrong. Because it goes from there back to the original 'show' where he's lying there dying.

I think its excellent - however i know that many people do not like it. The office and Extras got the same ratings, althought extra's started with a really high ratings then pattered out, and Ricky Gervais thinks that the maximum ratings they can get because thats the only people who actually like it.
