Maybe you should have a look to help learn the history of the Doctor and UNIT (since RTD keeps using it without the Brig). Would help too with the forthcoming appearance of Sarah Jane Smith and K9. Ah I see on the 8th on UK Gold there's another chance to see Survival, the last story before the crap McGann film and with little Adela Silva - bless. That has got to be a mistake surely. Listings don't go further than that so maybe they'll do like always and go back to Pertwee. He did some crackers and his era introduced the Master, brilliantly played by Roger Delgado. Anthony Ainley was good in the 80s but Roger was the best. Ant wasn't really any good in the role until Survival. Hartnell & Troughton barely get a look in. Curse of Fenric on the 7th. It's too early to judge Tennant. I'll be able to say after season 28. But I wasn't keen on Eccleston. He was too Tom Bakerish and there's only one Tom Baker. Patsy

But you've only got Christopher Eccleston to compare him to. Peter Davison was famous when he took on the part but he was a lousy Doctor. Not entirely his fault. A lot of stories were crap. Same as now. Earthshock is his best. Even his Dalek one is the worst of the 80s stories. But really he didn't have that certain something his predecessors had. William Hartnell was excellent despite having been typecast in certain roles. He set the standard. Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy were good but again let down by stories. Paul McGann would have made a good Doctor but that film was b/s and he never got a proper chance except on audio. CE was trying too hard. A lot of Tom Baker elements there, especially the grinning and manicness. So far with season 27 and The Christmas Invasion, this is reminiscent of the 80s with the odd good story among the crap.

The thing is though, Paul McGann spent half his time going, "Who am I?" or words to that effect in his only outing but you could tell he had the makings of a good Doctor given half a chance and better scripts. The main problem with that (apart from it being too American) was it was a mish-mash of Spearhead From Space, The Deadly Assassin and The Keeper of Traken.

It's hard to believe on the 20th May it will be 10 years since Jon Pertwee died. I went to a Lis Sladen event on that date in 2000 and although she told funny stories about Jon, she never once mentioned it was his anniversary. Mind you, nobody did. LOL! He was my first Doctor and I'll always like him, Jo and Unit.
